[not available online]Philippe Bonnet studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris from 1944 to 1946 and also received instruction from André Lhote. He knew Nicolas de Staël, Wifredo Lam and Victor Brauner because of his involvement with Christian Zervos' Cahiers d'Art review.

During his first period he mostly painted still-lifes. In 1956
