Mattheus Borrekens was the brother of the painter Jean Baptiste Borrekens. In 1635 he was the pupil of Peeter de Jode in Antwerp, and was master of a studio in 1636. He competed unsuccessfully for the execution of the plate: Entry of Archduke Leopold-William into Ghent. He was captain of the civil
