Born 1 January 1786, in Antwerp; died 1871, in Brussels.

Painter. History painting, genre scenes, interiors.

Brée was a younger brother and at first pupil of Matthew van Brée. In 1811 he went to study under Girodet in Paris and then, in 1816, left for Rome, where he remained for almost 16 years before returning to Belgium.
