Maurice Brocas studied painting at the St-Josse and Brussels Academies but elected to teach himself engraving and subsequently worked principally as a woodcut engraver. He was awarded the Picard Prize in 1927. He taught at the National Institute for the Fine Arts in Antwerp and was elected to membership
