Patrick Branwell Brontë was the brother of Emily, Charlotte and Anne Brontë. He set himself up with a rented studio in 1838 to pursue his ambition of becoming a professional portrait painter. He was not successful, and instead took jobs as a clerk on the Leeds Manchester Railway
