Between the two world wars, Jean Bruller worked prolifically as a draughtsman, publishing albums on themes of black humour, such as Twenty-one Practical Recipes for Violent Death (Vingt-et-une Recettes Pratiques de Mort Violente) (1928) and Hypotheses on Lovers of Painting in the Latent State (Hypothèses sur les Amateurs de Peinture à l'État Latent).
