Robert Bucaille was a pupil at the École des Beaux-Arts, Cherbourg. Over hazy backgrounds, he painted grids of rectilinear lines parallel to the inside of each grid, the different orientation of each grid creating separate or superimposed spatial planes. He exhibited in Paris, including at the Salon d'Automne in 1930, the year in which he had his first solo
