Jacques van den Bussche was a pupil at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseilles in 1943 and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1945. A painter of itinerant and wandering characters, the preciosity of his style is reminiscent of Odilon Redon. His earliest solo shows were held in Casablanca in 1952 and 1954.
