French, 20th century, male.

Born 1917, in Grisolles (Tarn-et-Garonne).

Painter.

Jean Capdeville started painting in 1947. Initially his landscapes were painted very much in the manner of Céret, but he rapidly developed a much more personal style with his graffito series Grotesques. His painting was essentially abstract but still maintained links with everyday life and his own personal experiences.

Capdeville himself consistently refuted any formal link with abstraction.
