[not available online] [not available online]Philippe de Champaigne belonged to a comfortably rich middle-class Flemish family, descended from remote ancestors in Rheims. He is said to have worked originally with Jean Bouillon and Michel Bourdeau and in 1620 he entered the studio of landscape painter Jacques Fouquier.
