Painter. Figure compositions, figures, genre scenes, interiors with figures, still-lifes.

Chapelle's first paintings date from the early 1940s. Her subjects at that time were traditional - such as women and small girls in interior scenes - and still-lifes painted in a Post-Cubist style, at times reminiscent of the work of Georges Braque. After 1963, her work changed radically as she explored the various possibilities of abstraction
