Arthur Chaplin was the son of the painter Charles Chaplin and a pupil of Bonnat and Bernier. He began by painting decorative works, but after a trip to The Netherlands in 1898, devoted himself to painting flowers, though he also produced portraits. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1899,
