Born 11 July 1801, in Geneva; died 19 June 1835, in Monnetier-Mornex (Haute-Savoie), near Geneva.

Sculptor, painter, draughtsman.

Having arrived in Paris at an early age, Chaponnière began by working at the École des Beaux-Arts, and in 1825 he entered the studio of the sculptor Pradier, who had advised him to abandon his painting studies and focus his efforts on sculpting.
