Chardigny studied initially with his father, Barthélemy François Chardigny, before being admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts on 15 September 1814, where he studied under Bosio and Cartellier. He made his Salon début in 1819, exhibiting medals and two reliefs representing Homer and Belisarius. He exhibited at the Royal
