Painter. Religious subjects, portraits, landscapes.

A pupil of Ingres and Gérard, he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1833 to 1870, and was awarded a second-class medal in 1840. Charpentier painted charming Italian landscapes and spirited portraits of Second Empire personalities, including Alexandre Dumas, George Sand, Mlle Rachel, General Baron Sibuet
