Born 1582, in Rostock; died 1658, in London.

Painter, engraver, draughtsman. History painting, portraits.

He travelled abroad, spending four years in Rome. He then went to Denmark, where he executed a portrait of Christian IV in 1611; in 1624 he taught painting to Christian Ulrik (Gyldenlove). He then left for England. His major works in Denmark were six decorative paintings
