Having studied at the Brussels academy, John Edmond Cluysenaar, a member of the Belgian Royal Society of Arts, was awarded the Prix de Rome and the Prix Godecharle in 1924. He sculpted numerous busts during his early career, and executed the statue of the Prince de Ligne in the Jardin d'Egmont in Brussels.
