Sculptor. Statues, monuments.

A pupil at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he went to work with Rude in his studio in 1847 and first exhibited at the Salon in 1848.

He travelled to Africa where he became interested in interpreting different human types in his work. This gained him entry
