He studied under Gros. He was awarded second prize in the Prix de Rome competition in 1818, and won in 1820 for his Achilles Asking Nestor for the Gift of Knowledge. His other works include Arion, The Suffering of Christ (in the church of Notre-Dame-des-Champs, Paris), the Assumption
