[not available online]Gilles Demarteau was given a pension by Louis XV and became a member of the Paris academy in 1764. He worked mainly after Cochin, Huet and Boucher. By 1914 his works had attracted very high prices.

Demarteau invented a new form of engraving imitating red chalk drawing. This process, known as
