2nd century, male.

Painter.

Ancient Greek.

Demetrius, son of Selencus, lived in Alexandria where Ptolemy Philometor conceived a great liking for him, taking the artist with him when he went into exile in Rome (c. 165 BC). Demetrius was apparently a painter of landscapes and one of the first to tackle such subjects. It is likely that he had an important influence on Roman painting in its early years.
