In 1826, after completing classical studies at the Lycée Henri IV, Alexandre Desgoffe joined the studios of Louis Watelet and Jean Rémond. In 1828, he joined Ingres' studio and in 1830, he helped set up the famous Barbizon rendez-vous where painters would meet
