Émile Alfred Dezaunay was a pupil of Élie Delaunay and Puvis-de-Chavannes. He specialised in painting local Breton characters and their rustic occupations. He also frequently painted the port and quaysides of his hometown of Nantes. A founder member of the Salon d'Automne in Paris,
