Born in Solothurn; died, in Bern.

Painter, watercolourist. Portraits, genre scenes, landscapes.

A pupil of Charles Germann in Bern, he later joined the Gros studio in Paris. In 1834 he left for Italy, visiting Venice, Florence and Rome and copying models by Titian and Paolo Veronese. He lived for a while in Fribourg before settling in Bern, where he exhibited from 1836 on.
