Edouard Doigneau graduated from the École Polytechnique and began a military career, which he abandoned in 1900. He was a pupil of Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury. He was mainly a watercolour painter and exhibited views of the Camargue, Brittany and North Africa in peaceful compositions
