André Dutertre was a professor at the École Gratuit de Dessin (Free Art School), and taught Vien and Collet. He was a member of l'Institut d'Égypte and a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur. In 1796 he sent the Salon a number of drawings after Raphael's frescoes in the Vatican Chambers.
