Little can be ascertained about the life of Albert van der Eeckhout. It is known that he worked for Johan Maurits, future Prince of Nassau-Siegen, whom he joined on an expedition to Brazil in 1636 (Prince Maurits was governor of the Dutch colony of Brazil).
