Johann Eggers trained in art under Matthai in Dresden. He then went to Rome where he linked up with Cornelius, Overbeck and Philipp Jeit. He worked with Cornelius on frescoes for the hall of the new museum in Berlin. He also worked in Rome at the Chiaramonti Museum
