Born 1808, in Uusikaupunki; died 1873, in Åbo (Turku).

Painter. Religious subjects, portraits, genre scenes, interior scenes, landscapes with figures.

After working with Sandberg at the academy in Stockholm, Robert Wilhelm Ekman travelled widely, particularly in Italy. In Paris, he studied with P. Delaroche. His paintings most frequently depict scenes of Scandinavian life.
