Painter. Religious subjects, portraits, architectural views.

A pupil at the fine arts academy in Vienna in the studio of Kupelwieser and Führich, Engerth subsequently travelled in France, England and Italy. In 1854 he became director of the Prague academy and in 1865 was appointed professor at the fine arts academy
