[not available online]Emmanuel Fougerat studied under Albert Maignan and Jean-Paul Laurens. He became director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and founding curator of the museum. He remained loyal to his native Brittany, painting landscapes and genre scenes of the region.
