Born 22 September 1793, in Bussières (Loire); died 19 November 1863, in Paris.

Denis Foyatier first studied under Chinard at the École des Beaux-Arts, Lyons, then, on the death of Chinard, under Marin. On 3 August 1817, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
