István Gach was Gyorgy Zala's student in Budapest. He completed his training at the Académie Julian in Paris. Like his master, Zala, he sculpted monuments, many produced in collaboration with Odönnel Szamovolszky. These included the Monument to the Battle for Hungary's Independence. He was George Gach's father.
