Clarence Gagnon studied under the direction of William Brymner at the Montreal Art Association from 1897 until 1900. He then made the ritual journey to France and Italy, studying at the Académie Julian. He returned to Montreal in 1909, but went back to Paris several times - from 1912 to 1914,
