Octave Gallian studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jules Lefebvre, Gustave Boulanger and Charles Ginoux. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and then at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1878 to 1904, receiving a commendation in 1884.
