The son of Lucien Gillet, Guillaume Gillet entered the Architecture Department of the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1930. A prisoner during the war, he painted a fresco in the camp chapel and from then on pursued a career in painting connected with architecture. He won the Prix de Rome in
