Gold was a pupil of M. von Schwind at the Munich academy of art. He settled in Salzburg. He executed many paintings of churches, his best-known works being the altarpieces for the Franciscan church in Salzburg, for the Capuchin church in Braunau-am-Inn, three ceiling paintings for the church in Kitzbichl (now Kitzbühl) and eight murals
