In 1752 John Greenwood emigrated to Surinam, then went from there to The Netherlands and landed in England in 1763. He engraved good portraits and reproductions after Rembrandt, Teniers and Metzu, and in 1768 engraved his own painting, Inquisitive Girl. He painted portraits, seascapes and watercolours, and
