A pupil of his uncle, Julien Michel Gué, and of Jean Alaux, Jean-Marie Gué exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1833 to 1859, winning medals in 1834 and 1840. He was appointed director of the École de Peinture in Bordeaux and curator of the
