Sir Herbert James Gunn trained at the Glasgow School of Art, at the Edinburgh College of Art and at the Académie Julian in Paris under Jean-Paul Laurens. He lived in Paris until 1914 and settled in London in 1920, becoming a successful portrait painter. He painted Queen Elizabeth
