Born 9 March 1811, in Dresden; died 22 May 1891, in Dresden.

Sculptor.

Ernst Hähnel began by studying architecture in Dresden. Around 1830, he moved to Munich and from then on devoted himself to sculpture. In 1849, he was appointed to a professorship at the Dresden academy. He both reproduced mythological scenes and sculpted busts of contemporaries. His works include Leibniz's Monument,
