Duane Hanson lived and worked in Davie, Florida. He started out as a teacher in high schools in the USA and Europe. His sculptures were noticed shortly before 1970. Certain artists in the USA were practising an exaggerated realism and, under the name hyperrealism, the movement became extraordinarily successful.
