Hercule was a pupil of Jouffroy. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1874 and soon acquired a considerable reputation. He received honourable mentions in 1883, 1884 and 1885, a third-class medal in 1886, a second-class medal in 1891 and a first-class medal in 1904. He also won
