From 1940 to 1945, Jean-Olivier Hucleux worked as a photo retoucher. He did not begin to paint seriously until 1968. While practising what was essentially a photographic realism, he showed two gigantic canvases, one representing a cemetery, the other, a cemetery of cars. In 1973 he began painting portraits such as Étienne-Martin (1974) and Jean Le Gac
