Henri Alfred Marie Jacquemart began at the College of Fine Arts in Paris on 22 September 1845 and spent time in the studios of Paul Delaroche and de Klagmann. He was awarded medals in 1857 and 1865 and was made Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1870. He
