Jean Jalabert began at Paris' College of Fine Arts in 1840 and studied under Paul Delaroche. He featured at the Paris Salon from 1842 to 1849.

His Magdalene, held at Carcassonne Museum, is reminiscent of Manet's Olympia. In general, he combined the line of Ingres with the
