William Sergeant Kendall first studied at the Art Students League in New York, then under Thomas Eakins in Philadelphia and Luc Olivier Merson at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris gaining an honourable mention in 1891. Renowned for his portraits
