Georg Kersting was a pupil at the Kunstakademi in Copenhagen (1805-1808) and Dresden, where he met Caspar David Friedrich, whose influence on Kersting's landscape style is particularly noticeable. In 1811 he exhibited at the Dresden academy. He signed
