Born 11 August 1848, in Wissen; died 17 May 1915, in Kassel.

Painter, draughtsman. Historical subjects, battles, genre scenes, landscapes with figures.

Hermann Knackfuss was taught by Bendemann and Gebbhardt and attended the art academy in Düsseldorf. A travelling scholarship enabled him to continue his studies in Rome. He taught at the art academy in Kassel.
