Born 15 March 1804, in Avignon; died 23 April 1882, in St-Didier (Vaucluse).

Painter. Portraits, genre scenes, landscapes.

Laplanche worked under Pierre Raspay and taught drawing at the small seminary of Ste-Garde in southern France. He is best known as the painter of beggars. He would capture their silhouettes with a rapid line, in poses expressing all their despair.
